Nashville Area Offers Bounty of Lifestyle Options
Published Apr 30, 2009
The Nashville area is in good company.
So says National Geographic magazine, which in September 2007 ranked Nashville second place on a list of the top10 greatest places to live and play in the United States.
The magazine pointed out that Music City has an ideal mix of terrain, activities and opportunities, and the action that the region provides could inspire a complete life change for someone wanting to move here.
“It is a combination of lifestyle and job availability that makes us such an attractive place to live, work and play,” says Carlyle Carroll, vice president of recruitment for the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce.
“Universities, the health-care business, entertainment, pro sports, recreation and nice people make it appealing to folks moving here,” he says.
The National Geographic article recognized Nashville for its 99 parks and greenways that span 10,500 acres, and city life that plays out at more than 2,000 restaurants and nightspots.
In addition, the city enjoys even more national credibility because it is a professional sports town, serving as home to the NFL’s Tennessee Titans and the NHL’s Nashville Predators.
Nashville is also a major hub for the health care, music, publishing, banking and transportation industries, and is home to several large entertainment venues – including LP Field, the Schermerhorn Symphony Center and the Sommet Center, the Grand Ole Opry and the Ryman Auditorium, known as the Mother Church of Country Music. It is also graced with water recreation spots including Old Hickory Lake and Percy Priest Lake.
“In addition, over the last 25 years, we are the No. 3 ranked city in the country in per-capita income growth,” Carroll says. “And we are a friendly city. In fact, the “Today” show and Travel & Leisure magazine both rated Nashville as the friendliest city in the country.”
